Family Devotion: Belt of Truth
Play: Play a game of True or False by making simple statements and asking your children to identify them as true or false. "Jesus died on the Cross, true or false?" "God only loves people who live in the United States, true or false?" (Be sure to give the correct answers to the false statements.)
Talk: The answers to all these questions can be found in God's Word. The Bible shows us the truth. In Ephesians 6:14, the apostle Paul said that we should put on God's truth like a belt. In Bible days, soldiers wore a special belt to keep their weapons organized and their loose clothing from slowing down their movements. Like a belt, God's truth can keep us from being tripped up by lies and can help us stay prepared to do God's work. How does knowing God's truth prepare us to do His work?
True or False?
Mealtime Prayer:
Thank God for the Bible and the messages He gives us in His Word.
Appetizer: Each person think of a message, true or false, that you want to give. It could be “Mom is beautiful” or “lions eat grass” or anything. Decide whether each message is
true or false.
Main Course:
How did you decide which messages were true or false?
When someone tells us something, how can we know whether he or she is telling us the truth?
There are many messages in the Bible.
Some were written by prophets who talked about
things that were going to take place in the future.
How did the prophets know what to write?
How can we know whether they were true?
For example, the prophet Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would be born. Was this true? Why or why not?
How do we know that everything in the Bible is true?
Table Talk:
• What should we do with the messages in the Bible?
• What message in the Bible has not yet come true?
Vitamins and Minerals:
